Meet our Partners & Producers!

We farm because we want to strengthen our local food system and feed people better food.

When you join our CSA, every week you have the option to add on eggs, meat, flowers, bread, cheese, mushrooms, honey and other goods made by local producers who share our values. We are grateful to grow vegetables and flowers for our community, but our regional agriculture creates so much more than that. We are committed to working with other value-driven, independent local farmers and producers so that we can all enjoy a slice of the truly good life, with a rich and diverse diet of delicious, healthy and responsibly-grown food. To eat this way and know that we are supporting our friends across an entire region is really something incredible. Do not miss these add ons!!! They take a great weekly diet of vegetables and turns it into something life-changing.

Some add-ons are offered on alternating weeks, or only for part of the CSA season. Read below to meet our growing network of inspiring farmers &. producers. For info on the CSA add-on specifics, schedule and pricing, visit our CSA Info page or click here!

Horse Shoe Ranch

Horseshoe Ranch is Urban Roots original add-on partner and, along with Clair of Ursa Bread, really helped us to figure out how to incorporate add ons. Our goal was to support each other, offer such an incredible diverse bounty, and celebrate our region’s agriculture. We are so thrilled to see their egg business growing and thriving in that time, to continue offering real pasture-raised meat birds, and for a mutual passion project to come together: 100% grassfed beef for the CSA!!!

Some words from our favorite farmers: We are Bryan & Brittany & our little one Birdie. We own and operate Horse Shoe Ranch on the outskirts of Lancaster, PA. We specialize in slower growing, raising hardy broilers for meat and a diverse mix of hens for eggs. We are truly pasture-raised in every sense of the word- the broilers are out on pasture enjoying sunshine and forage from 4 weeks of age until 9 weeks, moving to new grass daily! The egg laying gals are out all year round enjoying whatever new grass and bugs the seasons bring them. They are rotated weekly on our land that is full of trees, a stream, and all the forage they could want. All of our birds are supplemented with non-GMO grain for the best nutrition.

Ursa Bakery

Ursa Bakery is a two-woman operation run by Philly baker Claire Kopp McWilliams. Claire makes good bread from freshly milled, Pennsylvania-grown grain. Selections will vary by week, but each variety will be repeated so you’ll have time to develop favorites. All items are nut, dairy, soy, and egg-free. For more information about the variety of bread offerings, please visit Ursa Bakery’s website below.

Ursa Bakery was named The Best Bread in Pennsylvania 2022 by Food and Wine Magazine. You don’t want to miss this chance to get her bread every week!

Ursa is Urban Roots original add-on partner, and along with Bryan and Brittney of Horseshoe Ranch, really helped us to figure out how to incorporate add ons. Our goal was to support each other, offer such an incredible diverse bounty, and celebrate our region’s agriculture. We are so thrilled to see her baking her incredible bread in her new bakery that she owns herself.

We are thrilled to be offering a NEW pickup location at Claire’s new bakery in Nicetown/Hunting Park this year! Members who sign-up for our Philly pickup at Ursa Bakery (Thursdays 4-6) get 25% off their bread share.

  • BirchRun Hills

Birchrun Hills Farm is situated in the heart of Chester County where Sue Miller and her family raise their herd of happy cows and make award-winning farmstead cheeses including the iconic Birchrun Blue, Fat Cat and Equinox, as well as incredible fromage blanc, crème frâiche, halloumi and more that will elevate your recipes.

Everyone knows Sue for her award-winning cheese, but it has been incredible to learn more about their family farm operation, where they raise food for their cows and birth calves on the farm. As farmers, we love to see such a deep process. As consumers, we’ve heard lots of bad things about traditional veal. As conscientious eaters, most of us haven’t had veal in years. This is something different, and we really do not know anywhere else to find veal raised conscientiously. A rare treat from a rare farm!

  • Mycopolitan Mushrooms

Mycopolitan is an urban mushroom farm in Philadelphia that strives to grow the very best chemical-free gourmet mushrooms and demonstrate that mushroom farming is well-suited to the city environment. Their small-scale growing operation is hyper-local to consumers to ensure freshness, quality, and flavor unlike what is typically found in a grocery store. They seasonally grow about 7 varieties of gourmet mushrooms, and counting!

Brian is a passionate genius of mushrooms, constantly improving his production and facility to keep up with his latest learning. One of the things that impressed us the most, beyond the generous quantity and amount of care that go into each shares, is how he keeps learning and improving. It seems like every week we get to try a new best, as he refines growing and harvest conditions in pursuit of the perfect mushrooms.

  • WeBee Brothers Honey

The Eckel brothers have been beekeeping for the past 16 years and are committed to providing the local Philadelphia community with the highest quality raw honey and pollination of the local surroundings.

The Philadelphia honey comes directly from their hives in and around the Philadelphia area. Honey has many healing properties and consuming local honey has been known to provide allergy relief for some.

They offer many single-strain varietals and the honey share will include both. The single-strain varietals will expand your understanding of how diverse and distinct honey can be. Honey bees are incredibly important to our environmental and ecosystem and the gifts they share with us are delicious! Joel and Jeff are committed to learning all they can from their bees and education others as well.

  • Bluestem Botanicals

The premier 'Cocktail Farm' in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Bluestem Botanials is taking the "Farm to Table' movement to your glass. Enjoy a specially curated cocktail kit each month with products from their organic herb farm in Doylestown. Eric and Linda were former CSA vegetable farmers who found a way to focus on their farming passion while still engaging their community. And their kits will instantly turn you into a master bartender, conjuring flavors of the garden in ways you’ve never tasted.

  • Vesta Kitchen

Located in Chester County, Vesta Kitchen is a family business focused on providing simple, high quality food, sauces and other pantry items. John aims to bring customers and farmers together through his cooking, supporting farms like ours by buying their products and making it that much easier and more delicious for folks to eat healthy and local every day. Interconnection is a big word, and it’s folks like John who make our local food system robust.

  • Baba's Bucha

Baba's Brew is an authentic farm-to-bottle kombucha, inspired by her great grandma’s old-world recipe.

Baba's Bucha is handcrafted in small batches using only fair trade organic ingredients and local seasonal produce. Olga often purchases large amounts of seconds-quality incredients, helping local farms find markets for delicious and healthful foods that aren’t the most aesthetic - a big boost to farmers’ bottom lines. It is vegan, raw, gluten free and has no artificial flavorings or colors, brewed in glass, served in glass. It’s also the best kombucha we’ve ever tried.

  • Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm

Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm is located on the Cape May Peninsula in the pristine waters of the southern Delaware Estuary. Their oysters are carefully hand-raised using sustainable European rack and bag culture methods. Beautifully shaped oysters with meats that are plump and buttery, crisp and sweet, with just the right kiss of brine.

A major goal of our add-on program is to showcase the diversity of local agriculture, and we really cannot imagine anything that exemplifies that more than Lisa literally farming the ocean. That the oysters she grows literally filter the water they live in shows how much we can do with small producers that share values of environmental responsibility.

  • Kyle Smith's Pork Sausage

Located in Williamstown, NJ, Kyle Smith raises cattle, pigs, chicken and turkeys for CSA and on farm sales using organic growing techniques and sustainable methods that help regenerate the earth and be medicine for the body. Kyle is a long-time friend since the first time we tried his kielbasa. He is as generous sharing his knowledge and experience as he is sharing his smoker. Kyle has been active with NOFA among other community organizations that seek to promote agriculture and community health. He is the nicest guy ever, and also does all this while raising like 23 kids and holding down a full-time job as an AIr Force mechanic - which is motivating any time we don’t want to get out of bed, or be nice.

Kyle is a student of Barbecue, traveling and studying from pit masters and hog farmers. You can hire Kyle to cook a whole hog from his herd.

  • Frecon Farm Orchards

Frecon Farms has been growing some of Pennsylvania's finest tree fruits and berries since 1944. For 3 generations they've proudly serviced retailers, schools, and institutions with select tree fruits from their 130+ acre family orchard.

Frecon Farm was also a founding member of the Bryn Mawr Farmers Market, which we have been grateful to attend since 2016. We are so blessed by this opportunity, and for the farms like Frecon that came before us to build the foundation of the local food movement so it could grow to what it is today. As they say in the agricultural world, they are Triple OGs.

Enjoy the best sweet peach & apple varieties ideal for both eating and baking with the Urban Roots CSA add-on. They’ve been growing fruit long enough to get pretty good at it, so don’t miss out.
