About Us
Established in 2017, Urban Roots is a 26-acre farm located in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. We are committed to growing delicious, chemical-free vegetables, strawberries, and flowers for our community on land that we lease from a local non-profit. We’re first generation farmers, passionate about food, friends, and this good earth we steward. Every year we’re learning and building more and more, while working to be resilient in a changing world and climate.
We doubled our acreage in 2020, so 2021 was our first season farming this much land and our first year offering a full-season CSA. In the past we sold most of our produce to restaurants, in addition to vans full of veggies and flowers at the Bryn Mawr Farmers’ Market and Northern Liberties Farmers Market every week. The CSA has become the heart of our farm. Here our neighbors can share in the beauty and connect to the land that we value so much.
Many of us became interested in farming through involvement with farms in our communities, and we want to keep this culture and knowledge alive for the next generation. Of course, we still love bringing produce to chefs in Philly and beyond who make magic with our ingredients. We feel fortunate to be able to farm on this beautiful. land which is centrally located near the Main Line and Delaware County.

Meet the Team

Jack Goldenberg
Jack grew up in Gladwyne, PA, not far from the farm. He graduated from Kenyon College in Ohio. During and after college, Jack developed a passion for food, working his way up as a chef in Philadelphia restaurants. When a roommate moved out, Jack took over his garden and began growing veggies for himself and his chef friends. Soon he had garden plots all over the city and quit his job to farm full-time. When Matt and Savannah joined his team, he was farming 3-acres on a former soccer field in Radnor. Jack is our farm mechanic, master weed killer and crew coordinator.

Matt Danelutti
Matt is a DELCO native, and started farming almost right out of high school. He worked at Rushton Farm in Willistown for a couple years, and then as a partner at Urban Girls, a small farm on the outskirts of the city. On the farm, Matt is the leader in crop care. He manages the seeding, spraying, irrigating, fertility, and most everything to do with producing healthy crops.
